Accessibility Advocacy
Accessibility

Promoting Accessibility compliance among audiences to foster inclusion in the era of AI ubiquity & evolving legal standards.

Overview

Accessibility compliance is a key pillar of my expertise, alongside design and research. Throughout my HCI and design career, I have been a steadfast advocate for inclusive design, emphasizing the crucial role it plays in ensuring that solutions are accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical or digital circumstances. In an increasingly diverse world, delivering compliant, inclusive solutions isn’t just a responsibility—it’s essential for creating experiences that truly serve all users.

The Human + AI Symposium (July 2024)

On July 10th, 2024, I had the privilege of participating in The Human + AI Symposium, an event organized by the US-based SWARM Community featuring a panel of 29 global tech experts and AI veterans from industry giants like IBM, Google, Deloitte, Roche, and leading institutions like Stanford University and Berkeley AI.

The symposium explored groundbreaking ideas and real-world implications of adopting AI technologies. During my session, I addressed the critical topic of ‘Digital Accessibility & Compliance,’ highlighting the gaps between human needs and system designs, and offering strategies for organizations to achieve compliance with regulations like WCAG and Section 508. I also raised concerns about the ‘uncanny valley effect’ and its potential impact on individuals with emotional and cognitive challenges.

The event brought together both industry veterans and emerging voices in AI, fostering growth and innovation by demystifying key concepts and considerations in AI technology.

F-Secure Corp & Lookout Life (Sept 2023)

Accessibility is often treated as an afterthought, and F-Secure Corp (FI) was no exception. To promote a shift towards inclusive design, especially with the upcoming European Accessibility regulations effective from June 28, 2025, I organized a workshop and presentation.

I discussed various disabilities (e.g., ADHD, cognitive, motor) and their impact on daily life, emphasizing the importance of compliant design. The session equipped design professionals with valuable insights into invisible disabilities, neurodiversity, and practical strategies for conducting both automated and manual accessibility audits.
